MODEL A FORDS/PRE31 BIKES RUN 29th JULY
The mountainous shire of Jarrahdale, basks in the images of Les Webber and Clive Glands, so when a little old lady came running, to Clive, to say that she had just spotted a DKW and a Henderson, riding at the speed of light along the Serpentine railway line, he exclaimed, “that’d be Badby and Wightman, something’s on!” A quick call to Rockingham luminary, Mike Davie, who swept in on his Triumph combination and picked up Les, Clive kicked the ’58 Venom into life and roared up Nettleton road in pursuit of the Model A mob, on a run up to Serpentine Dam, organised by Billy Cowlin.
They caught up with the tail end Model A of Billy and Val, then parked at the cafe where John and Kevin were already parked, Jimmy Dougles also there on his Commando and Art Waldon on the ubiquitous R51/3 BMW. May Makin rolled in with the sweeper’s trailer and everyone traipsed into the cafe for a welcoming coffee, though the weather was perfect. Allen and Jean Barnes were also in attendance, having had the full three course breakfast, including muffins, yoghurt and marmalade.
The caravan made off over the dam wall, back to the SW Highway and thence home, via the colossal converted barn, chez Glands, where some spirited tyre kicking and scheming took place.
Thank yous to be duly extended to the Model A club, for inviting the V.M.C.C. along and Bill Cowlin for organising the motorcycles. Also to May for sweeping and to the blokes that pitched, for the camaraderie.
